Mystique was originally born as Raven Darkholme and is a powerful mutant with the ability to shape-shift into anyone. Due to her outstanding normal skin, she has to use her powers most of the time to fit in. As a kid, she met young Charles Xavier, who promised to take care of her, which leads to a strong friendship between them. When she meets Erik Lehnsherr, she feels good around him when he is more accepting of her natural self than anyone else, which is why she later joins his group of mutants and becomes one of the antagonists.
